Re: Season 2 Discussion by Eliot HornEliot Horn, 16 Jul 2009 07:14

Anyone with any further thoughts?

Also need a show of hands of who wishes to join in. If it's a go it will probably start in September.

Ah yes…I also tried to text him a few weeks back but have had no reply, so will add the result accordingly.

Cheers

8 week season seems good to me; I certainly thought this one was too long.

Cup was good.

I would like to start a new team too; only decided to go with humans because of the long break I had and I wanted to get back into the game.

Si, I don't believe the result between Fjords and Skavenblight Scourge was recorded - if you recall we never got to play the second half and I asked for the result to be recorded as 1-1 with 2 casualties to me (where we stood at half time).

I haven't been able to contact Alex, as he hasn't been down to the Anchor for a while, but if recorded this would give him 8 games and allow him to make the cut-off.

Agree with everything that has been said.

I am more than up for a new season.

I will probably start a new team. I would like to see more players obviously.

I will put more thoughts up when I have time to errr, if you needmore support with the webby as in, keeping more info, kicking people to do stuff, player information? whetever, I can happily help out with that.

The league is over, so there are no games. Feel free to use the forum to arrange friendlies though!!!

As I agreed at the start, so long as there is one person that wishes to keep their team, then that shall be the case.

I am concerned that the length of the league seems to have killed off peoples interest, and noone else seems to have any input regarding next season.

I am definately not playing now next season due to numerous other commitments but will keep running it. However I need folks enthusiasm to keep me going!!!

Dan, give me some options when you may be free. I'll try and free up an eveing mid week some time.

Cheers

Length - agree
Cup - agree
Teams - would like to continue same team, as stated at start. stopped playing games so that this was feasible. If all new teams I probably wont take part this season.
Comms - agree, unfortunately its not possible to force people to use a forum or even to be organised though.

On a side note when do you want to play the final Si?

Will be down tonight, if only to watch the game!

Would suggest for next season a shorter season and maybe try and organise a few "league days/nights" rather than once a week - try and concentrate attendance at the pub.

Obviously people could still play regularly if they wanted, but maybe if we pick one or two occasions and as many as possible turn up it might give a few people who haven't played their quota a chance to get some games in.

I'm just going to pull out of the running completely now…so it looks like the title race is between Stephen and Rob.

As there appears to be little action now, apart from the conclusion of the Adam/Dave game, does anyone have any objection to ending the league early?

Please shout, but there only appears to be four people actively posting now too :(

Adam,

Can you make tomorow to finish the game?

Ok chaps we need to discuss if we want a Season 2, and what changes, if any, should be made.

I'll get the ball rolling from my opinion:

  • Season Length

Way too long. When we decided on a 20 Week season, it was under the assumption that there were 20+ people interested in playing. From experience I believe Leagues should be run for a lot less (6 to 8 weeks), as attention and interest wanes after about a month. I say 8 weeks, and drop the number of games limit as I don't think anyone would try and take advantage of playing 100 games a week to build that uber team :P

  • Cup

Every like the Cup. I'm happy to do it again, though I may be better to set a single week for a Cup tie to be played, especially under a shorter league length

  • Teams

I did promise that people could play their teams for at least two seasons. Other Leagues I know start a fresh each season. I'm a bit concerned that if some folks keep their teams and some start a new team, or we have new players, they will be somewhat at a disadvantage playing any of the 10+ games teams in our league. We have been quite lucky in the races selected, but we could have faced the situation where there were experienced dwarf teams with Guard accross the board.
Starting new teams keeps things fresh

  • Communication

Really need to be able to get folks to announce ahead of time if they are coming. With the small group of players we ended up having, it could be frustrating for people to travel a long way or get a night off only to find there was noone for them to play. I say use the forum to organise games, and those that are organised take priority over those people that just turn up un-announced.

Those are my main thoughts but will happily go with the majority. The odds are I will not join in the next League (if there is one). Getting an extra night free to play has just become next to impossible for me now. However I am happy to carry on being the Commissioner. If we do want to start a league I reckon we do it shortly after the Albion Coast Cup when interest should be peaked.
